The Virginia Department of Aviation launched a new program last year to provide advanced automated weather observation and reporting stations to each public use airport in the state. In order for the equipment to get accurate readings, about 4 acres of Lake Country Regional Airport’s property needed to be cleared. We only have about 10 acres in that area that we can develop so we thought it made sense to do it all at one time. The remaining 6 acres of clearing are for future hangars, which will be our next big capital improvement project. We hope to get started on that soon as we already have a full waiting list for the first block. Each block houses 7 spaces and we currently have 3 blocks planned.
